Abito is Manchester's most awarded development

As Abito Salford Quays nears completion, Ask Life's Abito at Greengate, Salford has been awarded the What House? Best Interiors Layout Award and the Best Interior Design at Daily Mail UK Property Awards, taking its tally to 12.
Architect-designers Building Design Partnership (BDP) believe the distinctive contemporary development has received more awards than any other in the city’s recent past. Set over eight floors, the 256 “intelligent living spaces” were designed by BDP as compact living spaces and all feature a central pod housing wardrobe, kitchen, bathroom and storage space – and have a full size pull down bed.
The instant success of Abito at Greengate led to the development of a second Abito at Salford Quays, which is due to fully complete in January. Tenants have already moved into the first and second floors.
Abito’s award winning design was the result of a thorough Research and Development programme which involved the use of a full sized prototype apartment, giving BDP the ability to construct a building from the inside out.
Elimination of dead space was a priority. BDP designed Jasper Sanders said: “We looked at several examples of concept living, taking inspiration from the way the Japanese have successfully utilised smaller spaces through innovation.
Abito stands out for putting people at the heart of the design. Everything has been super-condensed and by removing the need for corridors, we’ve been able to put that space back into the living area”.
Duncan Bowman, Director at Ask Life, said: “To receive yet another award for Abito at Greengate, especially those as prestigious as the What House? Awards and the Daily Mail Awards, goes to show how popular the concept for these apartments has been. We are confident that Abito at Salford Quays will prove to be just as successful with owners, occupiers and investors alike”.
